First Draft Fiction

My fiction piece is a fake myspace page on my dog.

Monday, April 21, 2008

Snowflake Method

1) My miniature dachshund is making a myspace to make new friends and perhaps find a new soul mate.

2) Rufus, my miniature dachshund is getting bored of just chewing on his bone and sleeping all day long. He decides to make a myspace so he can make new friends and play with them. Rufus is heartbroken by Tinkerbell (my chihuahua) because she cheated on him with another dog so he is also looking for love with the help of myspace. Rufus is an easy going indoor dog who is way friendly and always ready to play his favorite 'chase game' with a friend.

3) My character's name is Rufus. Rufus is a male miniature dachshund who is getting bored of his repetitive life and decides to make a myspace to meet interesting people and maybe even find a lover. Rufus has been cheated on by his ex girlfriend Tinkerbell, so he wants to eventually meet a pretty girl dog to spend his life with.

Fiction Topic Ideas

I think it would be fun to create a fake persona on myspace and that's what i'm planning on doing so far.

Online Fiction

I found some serious online fiction on myspace...i looked up a couple of famous people and figured there would be some crazy people impersonating them and sure enough that's what i found. Here's a link to one of Paris Hilton's fake myspaces.

Another example of online fiction is this alternate reality game called Year Zero. I can't remember if that's an example we went over in class or not, but i typed in alternate reality games in google and that's what came up. I guess this game is based on the Nine Inch Nails concept album.

Major Wiki Edit

I changed my topic for the major wiki edit from Marc Jacobs to Pocatello High School because I knew more information about this topic and it was easier for me to make the article better. It took me about two hours total to complete my major wiki edit. Overall I figured out how to make major changes to Wikipedia fairly quick. This was a fun assignment.

Link to article: Pocatello High School
Link to article's history: Pocatello High School History Page

Minor Wikipedia Edit

I have decided to edit Marc Jacob's article in wikipedia.
Here is the link to the page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Jacobs#Company
and the history page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marc_Jacobs&action=history

I had two edits for this article in the 'company' and 'Louis Vuitton' sections. I thought it was going to be hard to find an edit for a wikipedia article but it was actually pretty easy and I already have some ideas for my major edit.

My Wiki-edit

I haven't for sure decided on a wikipedia article, but I'm thinking about editing the article on Marc Jacobs, he's on of my favorite designers. I could update past information and add more detailed information about his companies.

Snapshot: Summer 2006 I though I was going to Die.

"Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang!!"
Fireworks. I thought it had to be fireworks, but I was never more wrong in my life. All of a sudden I found myself in the back of the store hiding behind the cash register counter trying to become invisible. I was scared for my life wondering why this was happening to me...I'm from a small town in Idaho taking a two week vacation after I graduated high school. These things never happen where I'm from.

During the summer of 2006, my boyfriend and I went to North and South Carolina because part of his family lives there. Overall it was a great trip and I had loads of fun, but one night my boyfriend, his two brothers Bryce and Brent and I went to the strip in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (which is a carnival-type thing on the beach with many shops) and witnessed death.

There was no parking at the strip because it was a weekend night and extremely crowded, so we parked far away in a dark parking lot next to a couple alleys. Our walk to the strip was exciting. Laughter and yelling became louder the closer we got and the smell of fried carnival food made me hungry. I was eager to hit up the shops, so that's what we all started doing. Since it's warm outside most of the year the shops don't have any doors, the front of them are just open to the street. Pretty much all of the beach shops have the same things in them but it's still fun to look around.

The fourth beach shop we went into is where it all went down. Blaring techno trance music with the loudest base made it so I couldn't even hear my own voice. There were bright colors all around and funny looking objects. There were a lot of people in the store looking at different things minding their own business. My boyfriend and I happened to be looking at different nose piercings right by the opening of the store. All of a sudden fire works started going off. It sounded like classic black cats...almost kind of like gunshots. But wait a second, if those were just fireworks then why were flocks of people running into the store yelling "get down! get down!"? Seven gun shots turned this store into a chaotic frenzy with people crying and hyperventilating. It all became a blur from this point on.

"Brandon," is all I could say.

He took my arm and we crouched down running diagonal across the store to the back. I looked at Brandon and saw a ghostly white face with a look of terror. We ended up underneath the counter that the cash register was on frantically pushing boxes and anything else we could find in front of us to hide. There were a couple of hysterical girls that were working there behind the counter crouched down. I was far past crying, I couldn't even move. I kept imagining a man creeping behind the counter where we were sitting with a gun pointed at us, trying to get to the cash register. What's going to happen to us? What about my family? I want to live so much longer than 18 years. These thoughts were racing through my head.

"Brandon where are Bryce and Brent?" We had no idea what happened to them.

"I don't know, what should we do?" He asked me with panic in his voice.

"Shh I don't know let's just sit here." Brandon tried calling them but they didn't answer.

A good 15 minutes went by that I don't really remember, but all of a sudden a lady came back to where we were hiding and said it was safe to leave just go fast and stay to the left of the building and leave to the left.

"Brandon don't let me look if there's anyone dead or anything scary looking," I pleaded. He agreed. On our way out of the building I automatically looked over Brandon and saw a car crashed up onto the curb with a black male hanging out it all mangled looking. Yes he was definitely dead. I had just seen a dead man shot to death. I quickly looked away. I had an eerie gross feeling in my stomach. Police were just beginning to put the yellow 'crime scene' tape all around.

"Brandon!" Brent yelled from a crowd a few yards away. Thank God we found those two. They were just as shaken up as we were.

"Let's get the hell out of here," Brandon said. None of us had any idea what happened. The killer could have been anywhere. It could have been gang related or just a random shooting. We were all scared to death of walking back to our car a million miles away in a dark parking lot by some alleys. Everyone at the strip seemed to be evacuating quickly back to their cars as well, so at least we weren't alone. Every corner and alley we passed I was ready to duck down and get out of the way of gun shots. I avoided pretty much everyone because they could have been the killer.

Finally we raced to the car and speed back to the house. The car ride home was filled with four different versions of what just happened, and we couldn't wait to call and tell our family and friends. That was the most dangerous situation I've ever been in, bullets could have ricocheted off anything and hit us. We were that close.

When we got home, we turned the television on to see what had happened on the news. Sure enough, it was there. A couple different versions of what happened were broadcast, but the overall idea was similar. A police man saw a man waving a gun out of the window of his car, so he started yelling at the man and going over there. The man started shooting at the cop, so the cop instantly fired back which ended up in the man's death. I was so glad the night was over and everyone was safe and sound.

Conversation Revision

I work at Winger's Downtown which is a wing restaraunt if you have never been, and I was just arriving at work around 6:00 p.m. and this is what Katy had to say to me that night...

"So how do you like Hooters?" Katy asked me right when I walked into work.

"I don't know, I've only worked with her once but she didn't say a word to Rachel or I. Really seemed to like the guys that were working though. She loved them." Hooters is a nickname Katy and I gave to the new girl who just started at our work. She used to work at Hooters so I thought the name was fitting.

"Well I really don't think I like her. Did I tell you what she did to me on her first day?"

"No tell me!" I was thrilled to hear this story because Katy is sometimes known to over-emphasize things.

"Well, Bob was managing and he's cool ya know so I was texting someone and right in front of me she asked Bob,

'Hey, don't we get in trouble if we text at work, like shouldn't sheget written up or something? She's texting right in front of you,' and then Bob said,

'it's cool, only when Barbra manages you're not really supposed to text.'

So then I looked up at her and said,

'um, it's your first day, so I wouldn't really be trying to make enemies already.'"

"Haha, I can't believe she actually said that. She definitely wasn't friendly to me at all when I worked with her either. We will have to keep our eye on Hooters." What a ridiculous conversation. Turns out that Hooters is actually an alright person.

6th Post- Observation Revision

Just sitting down, a group of four arrived at Winger's downtown. Winger's is not busy at this time, and this was one of the three tables there. The group began looking at the menu with wrinkled brows and squinting looks on their faces. There was one lady, long blond hair dressed in khakis and a frilly red shirt. She was tall and wearing high heels that were making loud noises on the floor when she was walking. Three men were sitting with her dressed in earthy toned slacks, dress shirts and flashy ties. "We're on our lunch break so we're in a hurry," the woman says to the waitress. "Can we get four diet cokes please?" one man says with a smile. The four were engaging in conversation about what just happened at work and the ladies voice tone was carrying over the three mens. The waitress brought back diet cokes within one minute as she readily asked them what they wanted to eat with a big grin her face showing all of her extremely white teeth. The waitress was wearing a blue shirt with the phrase "get sauced" on the back of it. Her name tag says Addie and she has long dark hair and spoke in a very loud voice.

The lady orders salad and soup in a high pitched tone without a smile. Two men order Cajun burgers with grins on their faces and the other guy orders a chicken ceasar salad. "That will be right out" the waitress says as she skips away. The lady began another conversation about a new person being hired that is less than qualified which sparks focused and concerned looks from the three men. The food came out very quickly. "Thanks a lot" says one of the men. "Can you bring me another diet coke" the lady asks with her eyebrows raised. "Thanks" she says shortly.

The four of them don't speak much for 10 minutes while they scarf their food. One of the men stood up and wavs for the waitress to come over. He asks, "Can we please get our check?" The waitress shook her head up and down and brought back the check instantly. The man pays for everyone's meal and tells the waitress no change is needed. The waitress says "Thanks for coming in guys have a great day." The man was checking his watch and takes a sip of his drink. "Let's go" he says to the group. "Thanks for lunch Jerry" says the lady. They all get up and put coats on and strut out of the building.

4th Post- Revision

Three summers ago I took a trip to North and South Carolina with my boyfriend to see his family and stay at a beach house. This was one of the best times of my life! We ate at awesome restaurants and went to fun shops, but one of the things that stuck out most in my mind was the day we went to the beach and swam in the ocean.

It was a perfect day for the beach I was so excited! It was a hot day without a cloud in the sky. Normally, I don't like going out too far into the ocean, I get really scared of the crazy sea creatures (sharks especially) that could bite or touch me when I can't see them, it's the creepiest feeling ever. There had been no recent shark sitings at this beach, so somehow, everyone convinced me to swim out there and jump over waves with them.

I was reluctant to go out further and further into the ocean but everyone else was way out there so I figured it would be alright, but only if I had a boogie board to assist me so I could float on top of the water away from the weird sea creatures. It was fun for awhile, but I couldn't erase the fear of something rubbing up against my leg or worse, biting me. There were about 6 of us out there swimming. I looked over and there was a huge wave coming in that we were going to jump over and all of a sudden I looked again and there was a big, nasty, toothy shark that poked it's ugly ferocious head out of the wave. I was stunned. I couldn't say or do anything I was so scared.

Thankfully, my boyfriends brother Bryce who was really close to the shark yelled at everyone and we all got out of the water in lightening speed. If you haven't tried running full speed out of shoulder deep water, I will tell you right now this was no easy thing to do. I thought I was going to trip in the water and the shark was going to eat me. Luckily no one got hurt.

Turns out, only three of us saw the shark and no one believed that I saw it because I didn't say anything but I couldn't believe my own eyes. I was about to yell shark after the shock went away, but Bryce beat me to it. This is a memory I will never forget and because of this experience I don't think I will ever be convinced to swim in the ocean again.

2nd Post- All About Me

My name is Jessica Steele and im 19 years old almost 20 on February 15th. This is my second year at the U and so far it is going well. My hometown is Pocatello, Idaho. I have two amazing precious dogs, one is a miniature dachshund and the other is a chihuahua. I love to travel although I haven't been out of the country...yet. I also love to work out, play tennis and racquetball, barbecue, spend time with my family, and shop... And I have recently become addicted to guitar hero 3. My dream job is to be a professional photographer and make a lot of money. If that doesn't work out for me then interior design will work.

A blog is a personal web journal. It allows you to freely express yourself on many different topics and ideas. Blogs can be created for many different reasons.

http://orangette.blogspot.com/ is a blog I found that I liked. This blog has great pictures and tons of recipes. My favorite picture was of one of those chocolate covered orange candies which I love called an orangette. This blog got my attention because it was different, unique, fun and has to do with food which is my favorite.

http://www.facebook.com/ is my favorite web 2.0 app. It's important because it allows you to be social. Not only does facebook connect you with the friends you already have, but it allows you to make new friends and keep in contact with every one who has facebook. I also like it because pretty much everyone who has facebook is in college or highschool and I don't think you get as many crazy stalkers trying to talk to you.
